About LAMDA

LAMDA is predominently a conservatoire that offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the theatrical arts. The organisation also offers examinations to students aged 5-18. These are the exams I prepare my students to take.

LAMDA Syllabus and Subjects

The examinations are divided into 2 separate syllabi, performance and communication. There are 2 extra subjects shakespeare for perfromance and musical theatre outside of the main 2 syllabus streams. The subjects verse and prose, reading for performance, speaking in public fall under the communication syllabus. Acting, devising drama and mime fall under the performance syllabus. LAMDA also offers a range of group examinations in these subjects.

LAMDA’s Exam Grading

The exams are also divided into grades. There are introductory grades aimed at the youngest students, followed by exam grades 1-8. Of these, grades 6,7 and 8 are worth UCAS points (a system used for university applications for domestic U.K. students). LAMDA also offers a higher learning course called the PCertLam qualification.

Why Study Speech and Drama using the LAMDA framework?

Having the UCAS points for university applications can be incredibly beneficial. Even if you do not complete the grades worth UCAS points, having these certificates from a prestigious institution such as LAMDA can be beneficial for university applications and more.

Ultimately, while completing these exams can very much be seen as ‘doing all the right things’, the exams do give us an excellent framework around which to structure teaching and learning transferable life skills.
